Slowly but surely, the 30-agurot deposit added up

After Israel's new Deposit Law for recycling went into effect at the beginning of the year, the students of Talmud Torah Hare’em in Jerusalem’s Har Nof decided to take advantage of the law — requiring stores to pay cash for returned drink bottles — for a holy cause. The students have been scouring the streets and recycling bins, bringing empty bottles from their homes, neighbors, and friends, and then carefully counting, bagging, and sorting them at the school. Slowly but surely, the 30-agurot deposit added up, and after accumulating over 125,000 bottles, almost half the money needed for the school to purchase its very own sefer Torah has been collected.
