From My Table
| July 21, 2020Add sliced lemon and lime to a large pitcher of water. It’s immeasurably better than the classic lemon water, and you’ll find yourself sipping all day long!
The night before my kids’ first day of “home school,” I made an extensive schedule for everything I planned for us to get through each day. I tried to leave plenty of transition time and time for me to prepare too. I mapped it out on a huge oak tag, with a picture of each kid next to their individualized schedule, and hung it on the wall.
The motivation was great in the beginning, but by the time we entered week 3, I wouldn’t quite say that it fizzled out — more like Pesach started to get closer and closer, and there was simply more to do and all sense of structure was lost.
If I have to pinpoint one silver lining to this upcoming week, post-Pesach, it’s the new energy to get back on schedule again. Looking back over this relatively short experience with coronavirus, each week seemed to grow in intensity. Depending on where you live and who you associate with, it certainly played out differently, and each country and community experienced different phases at different rates, but to me, we all seemed to have moved together through it all.
Honestly, I don’t know where we’ll be holding when you read this because I’m writing it a few weeks before the magazine goes to print. (And I hope it’s not completely tone deaf by the time it’s in your hands.) I don’t know where our collective mindset will be holding, but at the very least we should embrace getting back to some kind of structure.
This week, our very own Rorie Weisberg chose the recipes in these pages to help you get back on track and enjoy a healthful recalibration. The content here should match the theme of the week in this world of crisis — helpful, healthful, and realistic.

Salt It Smart
Add salt to your eggs towards the end of the cooking process. Adding them earlier will mess with the proteins in the eggs, and you’ll have an inconsistent and watery end result.
Citrus Brush
I use a brush like this one to scrub my lemons, or other citrus before using it for zest (which is all the time) to get the scales o for insect purposes.
