Oatrageous Bars

- 2½ cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅔ cup dried fruit
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup maple syrup
- ½ cup nut butter
- ¼ cup oil (or ⅛ cup oil and ⅛ cup applesauce)
- 2 large egg whites or 1 extra-large egg
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix all the ingredients together and spread into a lined 9x13-inch baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden.

Every time I make this recipe, I think how much we enjoy this oldie but goodie and need to reshare it!
* My mother used to make these bars when I was growing up. I make it now for my kids. I always double the recipe and put it on an entire sheet pan, then cut them into bars and freeze them. They taste even better frozen!
* I use Craisins for the dried fruit, ½ cup of brown sugar instead of ¾ cup, and natural peanut butter for the nut butter. I also sub 100 percent silan for the maple syrup.
