Living Higher: Of Course He Was Jewish

Rav Kolodetsky immediately lifted his hat and removed his own yarmulke

Hundreds of people pass the security guard every day, but the conversation rarely goes deeper than “have a nice day.”

Yet when Rav Yitzchok Kolodetsky, son-in-law of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, walked out of Yeshivah Tiferes Moshe in Kew Gardens Hills, the security guard greeted the Israeli visitor with “shalom.”

The Rav asked if he was Jewish, and the security guard replied that he was from Israel — of course he was Jewish.

Rav Kolodetsky immediately lifted his hat and removed his own yarmulke, placing it gently on the head of his new friend, leaving him a bit richer from the experience.
