Heshy, the Parks Buster
| June 24, 2020Tischler made headlines last week when he snipped the chain locks on several parks
If an election for City Council were held this week, Heshy Tischler might be Boro Park’s new representative. A fixture in the community, Tischler made headlines last week when he snipped the chain locks on several parks that had been shuttered by New York City authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He is now planning a run for city council, and boasts that friends are throwing money at him left and right.
“My single best moment of last week was when I was in the park in Crown Heights, and five police cars showed up. All of a sudden, a young black child came over to me and high-fived me and said, ‘Thanks for opening the park.’ The cops just stood there in shock. I started talking to them and even invited them for a Shabbos meal. You can’t get better than that. The City Council has a channel to watch its hearings. It’s the most boring channel. You could fall asleep. When I get into the City Council, turn on that channel, and you’re going to have such a great laugh.”
