It was Thursday afternoon at the Agudah convention when I introduced myself to Rabbi Dovid Goldberg, rosh yeshivah of Telshe-Ohio, who’d be one of the keynote speakers that night. My grandfather was a talmid of his for years, so that was my “in.” I saw a nice backdrop of flowers and asked the Rosh Yeshivah if he wouldn’t mind me snapping a photo of him to add to my gedolei Yisrael photo collection, and the Rosh Yeshivah graciously agreed to accommodate.
I later realized it was good timing, because that night when he spoke, he shared a story: When Rav Yaakov Galinsky was living in Chadera, he wondered if he should send his children to the local school, so he went to seek the advice of the Chazon Ish. The Chazon Ish said he should ask the school if they’re willing to hang up pictures of gedolim, and if yes, then he should go ahead and send his children there. The Rosh Yeshivah then mentioned how his own father hung up gedolim pictures in the children’s bedroom over 60 years ago.
I then realized why the Rosh Yeshivah was so easy about letting me snap this photo.
