Regardless of hashkafah or background, this is one black hat that represents a message all of Klal Yisrael can relate to.

The hat was spotted at the Yarchei Kallah L’bnei Torah at the Westin Hotel in Princeton, New Jersey, where a two-day learning program focused on the sugyas revolving around the question of when one is allowed to renege on an agreement. The Talmudic term for one who backs out of an agreement is a “mechusar amanah,” literally one who lacks integrity, and even a cursory reading of the sources reveal Chazal’s disdain for such a person. Upon exiting first seder, the hundreds of participants were greeted by this hat, the small index card placed in the ribbon encapsulating the collective lesson of the program.
