Rabbi Don Yoel Levy

Rabbi Don Yoel Levy had the brilliance and knowledge, but also the generosity

T

he world of kashrus lost another luminary this month: Rabbi Don Yoel Levy had the brilliance and knowledge, but also the generosity to make sure mashgichim were compensated and able to do their jobs well. The OK hechsher he led, with representatives across the globe, was an army and he was its general.

When the current situation started in China, Rabbi Levy reached out to Beijing shaliach Rabbi Shimon Freundlich — not once, but every single day — giving support and reassurance. Eventually, Rabbi Levy went beyond words, donating money to the Beijing Chabad House when he realized that there were no more visitors.

At the darkest time, he was a beacon of light.
