New Beginnings
| October 18, 2022New beginnings always necessitate special zerizus
“There’s a subtle difference between the nusach we use when calling up the Chassan Torah and the one we use when calling up the Chassan Bereishis. When we call up the Chassan Torah, we say, ‘Amod, Amod, Amod... Chassan Torah, Stand, stand, stand.’ When we call up the Chassan Bereishis, we say ‘V’atah Kum Amod, and now, rise and stand.’
“Perhaps the reason for this distinction is that, whereas the Chassan Torah makes a brachah on the completion of the Torah, the Chassan Bereishis makes a brachah on the beginning of the Torah. New beginnings always necessitate special zerizus — a special burst of energy to welcome the commencement of a new level of avodas Hashem.”
