There are many types of lightning. In-cloud lightning (lightning within a cloud) is the most common while cloud-to-ground lightning (when a lightning bolt strikes the ground) is the most dangerous. Ball lightning which is very rare is lightning in the form of a 20–200 centimeter ball described as “floating” and illuminated.
