Why Spy?

The Meraglim that Moshe Rabbeinu sent to Eretz Yisrael didn’t have cell phone cameras to take pictures so they carried back samples of the fruits they found growing there. Their story illustrates an important point about spying: Interpretation or analysis of the information is just as important as the information itself. What did these huge grapes dates and pomegranates mean? It could be a sign that Hashem had promised them a wonderful land capable of producing magnificent fruit. But the Meraglim used the fruit to convince Am Yisrael that it was too much even for Hashem to give them victory because who eats such giant fruits? Giants — who were too big to fight!
