The Story of Street Names

“Turn left at the pine tree and head straight past the yellow house and the blue garage. We’re the red brick house on the right. If you reach the lake stop and turn back you’ve gone too far.” That’s what directions would sound like if we didn’t give streets names and numbers. In the United States and in most developed countries every street has a name. Cities have planning committees and one of their jobs is to give streets names or on occasion to rename streets. When a new area is constructed in the US the real estate developer building the area usually suggests the street names.
