Summer was winding down for Shloima and it had been wonderful so far. Relaxing with friends canoeing swimming great food and beautiful weather. He couldn’t ask for anything better than that.
After camp on Monday though his mother handed him a letter.
“What’s this Mommy?” he asked.
“It’s from the yeshivah. I imagine it’s telling you who your rebbi is and what supplies you’ll need. Why don’t you open it and find out?”
As predicted it was just that. He was very excited to find out that he had Rabbi Finkelwicz. Aharon Shloima’s older brother had Rabbi Finkelwicz two years earlier and really enjoyed learning with him.

He couldn’t wait to call his best friend Nossi to share the news.
“Good afternoon!” Nossi cheerfully answered.
“Hi! It’s Shloima. I got my letter from yeshivah. Did yours come too?” he asked.
“Yes! My new rebbi is Rabbi Lowenstein. I heard he’s really good. How about you?”
Shloima’s heart fell as he heard this news. He and Nossi had been best friends forever and had always been together in the same class. Now what would he do not being able to turn around and see his friend’s encouraging face there?
“Oh no!” Shloima cried “I don’t have him. I have Rabbi Finkelwicz.”
“That’s too bad Shloima but I know Rabbi Finkelwicz is a good rebbi. I’m sure you’ll really like him.”
“I know it’s just going to be really strange not seeing you in class.”
“Yeah it will be” Nossi replied “but we’ll still see each other on the bus and at lunch and there’s certainly always Shabbos ” his friend encouraged.
