Nowadays we might shop ’til we drop but up until the 1930s people could only shop until they couldn’t carry any more. In fact it was a problem for storeowners. Grocery store owner Sylvan Goldman for instance supplied a small basket for the shoppers in his grocery stores for them to carry as they shopped.
