Recycling in Rockland County
| March 28, 2012We’re going to take a closer look at recycling by visiting New York’s Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority. Rockland County (home to Monsey and New Square) is here to remind everyone of the motto “Reduce Reuse Recycle” — first try to buy less items that need recycling then try to reuse those items at home and then toss something in a recycling bin.
In RocklandCounty there are regular garbage bins and there are the special recycling bins: blue for paper and cardboard and green for glass metal and plastics. Rockland’s system is known as dual-stream recycling as opposed to dumping all recyclables in the same bin a system that’s called … yep you got it single-stream.
The Rockland Authority collects over 41000 tons of recyclable materials per year — the same weight as roughly 13000 cars or almost 100 airplanes!
