hat’s every singer’s worst nightmare? That’s easy — a hoarse voice. For many vocalists, taking care of their voice involves a regimen of voice lessons and individualized exercises. Others use voice boosters and tonics as part of the deal. Nine years ago, says baal tefillah and singer Isaac Honig, he used to suffer from hoarseness. His research into natural voice remedies led him to develop a tonic of his own, which he began to market when friends and colleagues kept asking for it. During the Yamim Noraim season, it’s always a hot item. “From 24 hours before performing, I watch what I eat very carefully. I stick to light, non-greasy and non-acidic foods, and take in lots of fluids. I’ve also gotten used to using my tonic, which is called Voice37, about two hours before singing.” In the studio, and lehavdil, in shul on Rosh Hashanah, he keeps a bottle with him — and some extra, for the baalei tefillah in panic mode who knock on the door….”
