Jolly Solly: Up and Down Day

solly

Mr. and Mrs. Faigelbaum and Efraim were getting ready to go on a family outing. Not just any outing mind you. They were going to drive out into the country to see a deep canyon — and more importantly to observe a rare hawk that inhabited the area. Efraim couldn’t wait to get going and kept waving his pudgy little hands around chanting “Wanna go bye-bye! Wanna go bye-bye!”

The canyon was in a very windy spot so Mr. Faigelbaum instructed everyone to dress warmly. He himself was bundled up in a fleece jacket and peaked cap with a picture of an eagle on the front. Mrs. Faigelbaum pulled on a sweater embroidered with robins as well as a floppy hat in a beautiful shade of duck-egg blue. Then she tried to bundle Efraim into a snowsuit with yellow chicks printed all over it.

Unfortunately right now the sun was shining and Efraim — who in any case wanted to get moving already — was not at all happy about having to wear a snowsuit. He wriggled and jiggled and protested loudly and vigorously until in the end his mother decided to let him be. She’d put the snowsuit on him when they were nearer to their destination.

Finally Mr. Faigelbaum loaded Efraim’s sturdy mountain stroller into the trunk — they would need it to cope with the rugged terrain — and they were off.
