In Sorrow: Rav Yechiel Zilberberg

An era comes to a close

Legend had it that the great Mirrer Roshei Yeshivah, Rav Chaim Shmuelevitz and Rav Nochum Partzovitz, appreciated Rav Yechiel Zilberberg’s unique way of leining. Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel would speak with admiration about the way he read Megillas Rus. And generations of Mirrer talmidim grew accustomed to the emotion and warmth in the voice of the yeshivah’s beloved baal korei.

A talmid chacham and mechaber seforim, Rav Yechiel — one of Mir Yerushalayim’s first talmidim who served as a baal korei for over half a century — stood tall in the hallowed beis medrash, and with his passing, an era comes to a close.
