I never dreamed I could run the chesed program in my school. I was just an ordinary 12th grader! Coordinating the chesed program would mean organizing and transporting the 10th 11th and 12th graders once a week to help families from our community. The girls were always tired at the end of a school day stating excuses why they didn’t want to go to chesed and were overall uncooperative. I never dreamed I could pull it all together. But one day my principal called to let me know that I had been chosen as a chesed head. I started to panic. There was no way in the world I could do it! My first instinct was to flatly refuse. Aside from actually coordinating the program I’d be responsible to create a catchy theme song breakout and decorative sweatshirt! In terms of the actual chesed work I’d have to pair up girls with their friends to do chesed in houses relatively close by to theirs. I’d also have to coordinate the timings with the chesed families and find willing drivers (not an easy task!). Yet I just couldn’t say no to my principal.
