MJ: Can you tell us about your house and neighborhood?

I was born in Casablanca and lived in the city center in a Jewish/French neighborhood in a very large apartment. In my time Morocco was under the French Protectorate so there were many French citizens who lived there.

The Arabs mostly lived outside the city in small towns — very few lived among the Jews and French. When I reached school age we moved to Marrakesh where we lived in the city in a very big house. We lived with my grandparents in an upscale neighborhood — mostly Jewish and French with some wealthy Arabs.
