Filming with Fiveish

oorah fiveishThe Stars Are Out And so I find myself crossing the Verrazano Bridgeand the Outerbridge Crossing on my way to Ocean County Park located nearLakewood.

I meet up with the crew and am surprised to discover such a large group of people at the filming today. There are cameramen Moshe and Zack actors Asher andBern director Rabbi Shmuli Rosenberg and his assistant Sheya and Leibie who is both actor and production assistant.

I also meet nine-year-old Caleb Fiveish’s costar in this segment. Caleb is here with his mother and grandmother who all woke up before dawn this morning in order to drive in fromBaltimore. Punctuality I discover is crucial to the filming process. Time is money.

It’s a chilly winter day and the park is virtually deserted except for our hardy staff.  That’s good news for the filming crew who relish the peace and quiet. But it’s not such good news for me not quite realizing that we were going to stand outside in the cold for hours watching the same scene unfold over and over again.

Not Easy Being Green It’s obvious from the get-go that Rabbi Shmuli Rosenberg director of marketing for Oorah is the man in charge. He is director producer production designer and public relations expert all rolled into one.

Rabbi Rosenberg says he is intimately familiar with the park and comes here to take a walk whenever he needs inspiration. The park only recently reopened after sustaining Sandy-related damage and the area he chose for filming is warm colorful and inviting and lends itself to some artsy shots for the musical montages in the film.

Today we are filming “It’s Not Easy Being Fiveish” which is partially a spoof on a similar song that was sung years ago by another iconic character who found it difficult to be “green.” But while that Muppet of note had to console himself with the fact that green is the color of spring Fiveish is comforted by his young friend Caleb who explains to him that Hashem made him perfect just the way he is.
