Can you give some general guidelines as to what children's building toys such as Lego Clics and other toys that connect to construct an object are permitted on Shabbos and which ones are not?

Contemporary poskim are divided in their opinion as to whether or not parents may permit children above the age of chinuch (approximately 6-7 years old) to play on Shabbos with toys which interlock together such as Lego Bristle Blocks Clics or Tinker Toys. Some poskim including Rav S.Z. Auerbach allow playing with these on Shabbos while others including Rav Y.S. Elyashiv are more stringent. It stands to reason that Waffle Blocks which are loosely connected blocks would be permitted even according to the more stringent view.
