Cut and Dried
Once upon a time there were two brothers: The younger Will Keith (W.K.) was a high school student. His older brother John Harvey was a doctor who set up a hospital called the Battle Creek Sanitarium inBattle Creek Michigan. Eventually John Harvey hired W.K paying him $6 a week to do undesirable jobs like shine his older brother’s shoes!
In 1894 the brothers were experimenting with finding healthy foods for their patients. One day some boiled wheat was left unattended and became stale and dried out. They put the stale stuff through rollers anyhow hoping it would turn into sheets of dough. But it turned into hard little flakes instead. John Harvey wasn’t too interested but W.K was.
John set up his own factory replaced the wheat with corn added sugar … and the rest of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes is history!
