Boys Night Out… without the Sons-in-Law?

You realize that your husband and the other sons-in-law were not invited

Your father is taking “the boys” out for the first annual men’s steak night. It’s going to be a lavish affair in a really nice restaurant. You realize that your husband and the other sons-in-law were not invited.

No deal: Whatever. My husband is mature, and my father is entitled to spend time with just his sons.

Deal: What in the world! I would promptly call my father and ask that he treat my husband like his son and invite him to join.

  • In my husband’s family, the in-laws are treated as “other.” There will be family pictures first of the immediate family and then the in-law siblings are invited to join. Only the actual married kids get birthday gifts. It’s hurtful. Once married in, you should become part of the family. Inviting just the sons isn’t okay.
  • Key word is other sons-in-law…. I’m an only daughter. My husband wouldn’t be interested in going even if he was invited. And I would still be upset about it!
  • Of course if my father wants to spend time with my brothers I wouldn’t interfere! He may have his reasons why.
