Ball of Fun
| August 20, 2014
How would you define a ball? Did you say something round? Try again! Footballs aren’t round. Did you say something used to play a game? Wrong again! Sometimes balls are used in engineering (ever see balls on the bottom of a chair?) or as weapons. Did you say something made of rubber? Oh my! Then you’ve really got your balls mixed up. UntilColumbus’s voyages the world didn’t know about rubber balls. They used animal bladders or skins (yuck!) stuffed with various materials. Or stones. Or snow. The Spanish were the first to copy the Native Americans’ bouncing rubber balls which by the way were made of solid rubber and not inflated with air. So what is a ball? I don’t know how to say it. But you know what I’m talking about right? To read the rest of this story please buy this issue of Mishpacha or sign up for a weekly subscription
