et’s see what the hair-care experts on hair care can pull out of their supply bags to get you looking beautiful l’kavod Yom Tov.

Yocheved Gross

Yocheved Gross is a famed hairdresser in the New York area. She has been styling hair and wigs for close to 18 years and started when she was just 12 years old!

First of all your hair doesn’t have to be down to look dressed up. There’s nothing wrong with wearing a ponytail on Yom Tov! Hashem created everyone differently and if your hair is oily that’s okay. Instead of wearing your hair down with a headband you can wear a ponytail with a nice barrette or bow.

But if you have oily hair and want to try to keep it down for as long as possible here’s what to do:

  • Shampoo your hair twice before Yom Tov making sure to rub it very well.
  •  Do not use conditioner!
  • Before you go to sleep put your hair in a ponytail at the top of your head using a scrunchie. Don’t use a ponytail holder because it will leave a mark.
  • In the morning take out the scrunchie and your hair will fall down looking fluffy and beautiful!
  • During the day I suggest wearing your hair in a half-pony or pulled back with bobby pins to minimize the chances of it becoming oily.

Here are some more tips from Yocheved for taking care of your hair for a special occasion or just any day

My Hair Is ....

Really Thick: Always use conditioner

Really Thin: Shampoo twice but don’t use conditioner

A little bit too frizzy for my taste: Use Extra Hold Mousse especially in the front of your hair to keep it neat.

A Crimpy Frizzy Mess: To keep it tame take a shower at night and put your hair in a tight ponytail or braid. Cover your hair tightly with a bandana and sleep with it on all night. When you wake up your hair will be flatter since the frizz will have dried flattened.
