Around the Globe – Argentina

Silver and Spaniards While we’re on our way I’ll tell you a bit about Argentina. Its name comes from the Latin word for silver argentum after mythical tales of silver mountains believed by early European explorers to be in South America. Today most of the population has European ancestry but they weren’t the first people in Argentina. Thousands of years earlier Argentina was the southern capital of the ancient Inca Empire and you can still see the remnants of the many weird and wonderful structures they built.
