A World in Miniature
| June 29, 2011
Welcome to the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City! This is a thirty-eight-room mansion built in 1911 that boasts the largest collection of old-fashioned toys and fine-scale miniatures in the Midwest. In the 1950s a woman named Barbara Marshall started her collection of dollhouses and miniatures and she was joined by her long-time friend Mary Harris Francis a few years later. Mary’s mother used to tease the two friends about having a collection so large that they could start a museum ... and so they did! In 1982 their museum officially opened to the public. Which just goes to show always listen to your mother!
