A Pre-Purim Mask

Personally I don’t need the help of a costume or a mask. As time goes on my face seems to be taking on new forms and shapes on its very own. Whatever happened to the silky rosy complexion of my youth? When did I ever use so many lotions and creams? In the winter if my lips were chapped a little smear of Vaseline was all I needed.Nowadays smearing has become a major time-consuming activity each night. Face cream eye cream neck cream hand cream foot cream nail cream body cream. Greased glazed and buttered up I finally head for bed.I once looked for a single jar of general all-around cream good for every contingency but wherever I went they insisted that different parts of the anatomy require different creamy concoctions and care. In one store in addition to the regular collection of creams the saleswoman also suggested a nightly eye mask. I narrowed my eyes and told her the only time I wear a mask is on Purim. She shrugged her shoulders and brought out two additional eye creams instead — one for the lids above the eyes and one for the bags underneath! At that point I put on my dark sunglasses and left. Enough is enough.
