Mrs. Esti Abend auction coordinator for Oorah takes us back to the pre-Fiveish era. “Oorah is a great kiruv organization ” says Esti. “Twenty years ago we were the first ones to start the Five-Dollar Auction in which you can win mega prizes — like $36 000 lifetime trips toEretzYisrael or exotic pets — for just $5. Still over time we looked for a new way to stand out. We decided to talk to our best friends the kids and create a character the kids would like so they’d also help us raise money to bring kids closer to Torah and mitzvos. “We brainstormed together ” says Esti. “Someone suggestedBilly in honor of the five-dollar bill. (Imagine Fiveish beingBilly! Impossible!) And then someone hit on the Five idea. We tossed around Fivel Fivy and then someone blurted out ‘Fiveish!’ At first it sounded… well Fiveish-y. But the more we thought about it we decided that it was the exact thing we wanted to express. So Fiveish it was!”
