Just Ask Bubby

It’s important to engage in activities you enjoy. I love nature art and music and try to connect in these realms. We take nature walks. I also work on expanding their world through all five senses. For example I show them the threads in my needlework pointing out the gradations of colors 20 different blues 15 greens etc. Then we look at the greens in the trees outside the blues of the sky. We touch the textured threads wooly ones silky ones… they even help pull the needle through. For the sense of smell we sniff spices sweet or tangy… Sometimes we look at family photos. Several years ago I made an album for each of my children infancy through adulthood. The grandchildren love seeing their parent as a child. Near the kitchen table I have a huge bulletin board filled with family photos from everywhere. The grandchildren love finding themselves their cousins and assorted relatives. —Miriam New York CityTo read the rest of this story please buy this issue of Mishpacha or sign up for a weekly subscription
