Amazing You: “Shoulder”ing the Load

Joints are the place where two bones meet. Many joints just move back and forth like the finger and toe knuckles knees and elbows. Your shoulder though moves in a full circle.

Try it yourself! With your arms hanging down move your shoulders in a full circle: front up down back. Now try a full circle with your arms out. Feel the stretch in your muscles?

How can your shoulder move in a full circle? It has a ball and socket joint. The shoulder blade or scapula is a triangular bone in your upper back. It ends in a socket or cup shape just the right size for your arm bone.
