SisterSchmooze

Let’s be honest. Three sisters who like to schmooze — a lot — weren’t always model students. We didn’t come to school every day with well-organized pencil cases smiles on our faces songs in our hearts. Maybe that’s why our most vivid memories of our BaisYaakovdays don’t always involve Mishlei mussar or algebra — but rather some of our not-so-finest moments. Like Emmy founding the tenth graders’ I Can’t Cope Club. LikeMiriam in a moment of 12th-grade frustration kicking a wall — and putting a crack in it (is there a statute of limitations on high school felonies?). LikeMarcia forgetting French class because she was downstairs playingCharlie (yes she named her guitar) and singing with her friends.Looking back though we also see the blessings of those years. Suddenly Miriamheard a voice: “Gut Shabbos MissStark.” Rejecting the possibility of a bas kol (ben kol?) she looked at the man walking by and suddenly it came to her — it was her high school principal! A few moments to catch up on the passing decades and thenRabbiNachman said “You know you did a good job with them.” Our principal replied with a smile — half amused half weary — “They didn’t always make it easy….”
