My House is Your House

The ideal tenant is…
Someone uncomplicated — you never know what will come up so you don’t want someone who can give you a hard time. Reliable because I have to pay my mortgage on time. Ideally I look for a family at the same age and stage as my own so that my kids’ noise and music doesn’t make them crazy. Clean is important too — well I guess that’s kind of obvious.Leah Monsey
A tenant who pays the rent — I’m not fussy aside from that! Oh and obviously since they live right next to us they have to be frum. I can’t bring someone who is inappropriately dressed into my chareidi building. Ora Yerushalayim
I like tenants who have full-time jobs so that they won’t hang around and nudge me too much. My basement is a studio so I only take singles. I take non-Jewish tenants but we ask for a ton of references and information almost like a shidduch to make sure we’re getting someone respectable. I have to screen very carefully since I wouldn’t want a young person who is loud and wild or someone who will wreck the place. Ruchele Toronto
