Living Higher: Simchah in the House of Brisk

Talmidim looked on in joy — and disbelief — as the Rosh Yeshivah walked toward the chuppah to recite the brachos

The simchah in the House of Brisk was great. The marriage of the granddaughter of Rav Dovid Soloveitchik — daughter of his son Rav Velvel — was also a celebration of the revered Rosh Yeshivah’s recuperation after illness. Talmidim looked on in joy — and disbelief — as the Rosh Yeshivah, who’d been weak and hospitalized for so long, walked toward the chuppah to recite the brachos.

One of the talmidim opened a siddur to the correct place, holding it open before the Rosh Yeshivah. Rav Dovid thanked the talmid, but explained with a smile, “The brachos are a mefuresheh Rambam, explicit in the words of the Rambam…. I hope I’m well enough that I don’t need help to remember a Rambam!”
