The Shabbos Tie

There it was. The word bounced around in his mind as they walked home from shul Shabbos night. There was nothing to do on Shabbos — no ball no nothing. Yehuda snorted. “Yehuda ziskeit are your allergies acting up?” his father asked. “Allergies whoa ” saidJonathan their Friday night guest. “I used to get allergies so bad it kept me off the baseball field all spring.” At these words Yehuda turned. “Baseball field? You play?” “Sure ”Jonathan said. “What you never heard of me?” He winked. Yehuda blushed. “Where do you play?” “Well ”Jonathan put his hand up for a high-five “I just got the offer to go pro.” “Professional baseball like the big leagues? LikeSandyKoufax!?” Yehuda’s mouth hung open andJonathan laughed as the Zabar’s arrived at their doorstep. Nine-year-old Rina and five-year-old Simcha came running out to greet them.
