This week: Bunk Counselor
| August 11, 2010
MJ: Do you do anything special to welcome your campers?
DF: Sure we call it “Bunk Night.” Each bunk in the camps puts on a little show -- a song or dance about their bunk -- and performs it for everyone else. We have fun working together to figure out what to say about our bunk.
And of course we do lots of things to make the campers feel at home. We make the bunkhouse a fun place with music playing and a hemishe atmosphere. Girls put up pictures of their families and friends by their bed. The bunkhouse looks great with all the pictures up. Plus asking people about their pictures is a great way to start getting to know them!
MJ: What's special about a bunk counselor's job?
DF: While we go about our job -- helping campers wake up get to davening activities meals etc. -- we try to be role models for the campers on how to act with good middos and how to have fun in camp. Being a camper for so many years myself I know there are many wonderful opportunities in camp and that a positive attitude helps you achieve more. I try to teach that to my campers.
