Resounding Sounds

djMJ: Mrs. Reifer can you tell us a little bit about what you do?

R.L.: I run a recording studio. Ladies and girls come to my studio to have their songs prerecorded with music. Sometimes we do the recording without music during the Three Weeks for example.

The recording process works as follows: We all put on headphones. While my customers sing into the studio microphone in a room called the recording room or vocal booth I sit in an adjoining room called the control room separated by a glass wall where I record their singing.

I make sure every word is sung perfectly. If I feel that the articulation pitch (tune) or volume is imperfect I ask them to sing it again. Sometimes we repeat a line five times until we get it just right. After we’ve perfected it I begin the “mixing processes.”
