s a Vizhnitzer chassid, I once went in to take a kvittel to the Yeshuos Moshe zy”a, and on my way in I suggested to the gabbai that maybe I could sing a niggun,” says Shloime Gertner of a solo he’ll never forget. “This was years ago, just when Sruli Ginsberg had released Pinky Weber’s ‘Aneini’ [from the album with the same title]. I sang ‘Aneini,’ and the Rebbe was very taken by it. That was probably my most memorable performance. Another time, I had the opportunity to sing for Rav Ovadiah. I think he liked it, because I received the special slap.” (Originally featured in Mishpacha, Issue 711)
