For Your Information — The Seasons
| June 20, 2012
What Are Seasons?
Our year is commonly divided into four seasons — spring summer autumn (fall) and winter — each with their own weather. Meteorologists in different countries use varying systems to determine on which days seasons begin and end. Roughly speaking in the northern hemisphere summer starts on June 20th fall / autumn starts on September 22 Winter starts on the 22nd of December and spring starts on March 20th .
The Southern Hemisphere’s seasons are directly opposite those in the Northern Hemisphere. So for exampleAustraliahas summer in December and winter in July. Hot tropical regions likeIndiausually have just two seasons; the rainy-monsoon season and the dry season. And in the polar regions north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle there are also just two seasons: polar day (spring and summer) and polar night (autumn and winter). In summer at the poles the sun doesn’t set and in winter the sun doesn’t rise!
