Meet Gary LeMaster of Iowa. He’s sitting at a table hunched over his work. Look at what he’s laboring over so carefully: an eggshell! Yes he’s making art from eggs!

“I love art but I’m color-blind” Gary says “so my paintings didn’t look too great. I used charcoal or tried other mediums. Twenty-seven years ago I tried eggshell carving and I got hooked. Now it’s my greatest passion. I use real eggs from either a goose ostrich rhea emu turkey or chicken. I used to clean each egg by drilling a small hole at one end and then emptying it but now I get the eggs from breeders empty and sanitized.”

Just look at these awesome pictures! Mr. LeMaster etches pictures of birds flowers buildings people and elegant twisty designs into the eggshells. How does he do that?

“First I draw my design on the eggshell. Then I begin engraving. I use a special dental drill. It takes intense concentration and a lot of patience and time. I’ve discovered that because it takes such focus all the worries in my mind disappear!”
