n November 2016, I did a show in Odessa, Ukraine, with a 70-piece orchestra, and there were over a thousand frum people in the audience,” says Simcha Leiner. “What struck me was that we didn’t share a common language — if I’d spoken to the crowd in English, no one would have understood me, but we were able to connect through the universal medium of music. Everyone was singing, dancing, and crying along together.”
