For Whose Ears?

ospital visits are certainly among the most emotional aspects of a singer’s work, especially when the patient is a child. Chilu Posen of Mezamrim Choir recalls one such sobering visit. “Once, we went to the pediatric ward to sing for an eight-year-old boy. During the second song, the child fell asleep. I got up to go, but his mother requested we continue singing, which we did. Ten minutes later, we asked if we should go to the next room, and she asked us to sing “Machnisei Rachamim.” After that, I continued on my patient rounds. As I was leaving, she came over again. “You think you were singing for my son? My son is deaf. You sang to give chizuk to me.” (Originally featured in Mishpacha, Issue 721)
