That Stuff Called Nosh

What Is Nosh?
Nosh is defined as “a snack or light meal.” Snacks come in all forms — fruit nuts or packaged and processed food. A snack can be an apple a chocolate candy bar a spicy pickle a pack of pretzels or anything else you nibble on between meals.
Who Created Candy and Chips?
Ever wondered how some of those yummy snacks were invented? Some of them were actually created by mistake …
Popcorn — When ancient Mexican tribes discovered that a certain kind of popcorn would pop when heated they designed the world’s first popcorn “machine”: sand heated by the fire into which they would add the popcorn kernels.
Lollipops — In ancient Egypt people would crystallize nuts and fruits in honey and eat them off sticks. Later in medieval Europe sugar was an expensive luxury item that few could afford. Candy was made into hard blocks and sold to the nobility on fancy handles.
Potato chips — In 1853 George Crum a Native American working as a chef in a hotel in Saratoga Springs New York had a guest return his French fries complaining they were too thick. Crum decided to get his revenge on the guest by preparing fries too thin to even pick up with a fork. But the guest actually loved the crispy golden brown fries — and potato chips were born!
