Shuki and Tuki at the Esrog Orchard
| September 20, 2010Hi I’m Shuki remember me? I have a riddle for you: What fruit is yellow sour looks similar to a lemon but can cost hundreds of times more than a lemon? Of course you all know the answer: an esrog. The esrog has both a good taste and aroma and symbolizes the Yid who has Torah and maasim tovim. Many Yidden are happy to pay a small fortune to purchase an esrog mehudar — an esrog that is especially beautiful and halachically as perfect as possible. To discover how an esrog grows and why it is such a costly item we’re off to the esrog growers “Chibas Yerushalayim” in Be’er Yaakov a little town in Eretz Yisrael where Reb Mendel Katz is happy to give us a fascinating tour of his plant where he grows esrogim of the “Chazon Ish variety.”
