Tisha B’Av with Zeidy Zakon

On Tisha B’Av there is only one place I want to be. Let’s get into the jeep and join all the tens of thousands of Yidden who come to sit and cry at the Kosel. On Tisha B’Av night we’ll listen to Megillas Eichah here. Its words were written in this very city so long ago by the Navi Yirmiyahu describing the terrible tragedy of the destruction of the first Beis HaMikdash.

Into the jeep everyone. Did you all bring your Kinos? Okay it looks like we are ready.

Kinderlach look: We are driving through the city center. Usually this area is noisy and full of people. Tonight though everything is closed and the streets are quiet. On Tisha B’Av in Eretz Yisrael it is against the law to keep restaurants open.

Look that policeman. Does anyone see anything unusual about him?

Zeidy he’s wearing sneakers!

That’s right. In Eretz Yisrael there are many religious policemen and they like all of us will be fasting and they won’t wear leather shoes on this day.
