"T wo o’clock.”

“Four o’clock.”

“Shuly we’ll do our homework later.”

“Shprintzy I want to do my homework first.”

“Two o’clock!”

“Four o’clock!”

Madame Chamberlaine laughed. “Mes filles we’ll leave at three o’clock. This way Shuly can do her homework before and Shprintzy can do hers later. “

“Where are we going?”

“We’re going to visit a family of quintuplés.”

“Quintuplés? What’s that?”

“Quintuplets. That’s when five babies are born together.”

“We’re going to babysit?”

“Oh la la! Non! They’re grandes! As big as you!”

“So why are we visiting them?”

>“Parce que the two of you can help them.”

“How? What’s the matter with them anyway?”

“Ah! You’ll see” Madame answered. “Shuly do your homework and we’re off.”

As I waited I decided to do my homework too. Of course I went into a different room so that Shuly wouldn’t see that for once I agreed with her!

At three o’clock we raced after Madame Chamberlaine and her pink scarf. Her high heels clacked on the icy sidewalk.

She stopped in front of a pink house. On the lawn there were five pink flamingos stuck deep into the snow.

On the pink door were five pink plates. Every plate had a different letter.

“Pinky ” I read. “Ha no wonder their favorite color is pink!”

Madame Chamberlaine rang the pink bell.

A woman wearing a pink robe pink tichel and pink slippers opened the door. She had very pink cheeks.

“Oh bonjour Madame Chamberlaine!” she said. “Vous êtes venu!”

The lady led us inside the living room. The walls were pink. The flowers on the pink coffee table were pink and there was a pink couch at the far end.

Sitting on the couch were five girls. Each of them had black hair and a pink hairband with a huge pink flower on the left side. They were all wearing pink tops pink skirts and pink shoes.

“Shuly check out the books they’re reading ” I whispered.

They each held the same book in their hands. I leaned in and saw that they were all up to the same page. Suddenly one girl scratched her back and one by one the other four each reached for their backs and scratched. Thirty seconds later the girl in the center reached for a pink tissue from the coffee table. One by one the other four each reached for a tissue and as if on cue they all blew their noses.

“Are they real?” I asked Shuly.

Shuly shrugged. “They look like duplicates of one another. Maybe quintuplets do that.”

“Nah Hashem makes each person unique even quintuplets. Let me find out if they share the same name too.” (Excerpted from Mishpacha Jr. Issue 691)
