Just Part of the Solution
| October 13, 2010One by one Rena presses down the pleats on her gray woolen skirt. She takes a deep breath and speaks slowly articulating each syllable.
“Medication is something that I am not willing to consider doctor. In my profession as a diet counselor I have done much research into an ADHD-friendly diet one that excludes sugar artificial colorings and gluten and that is rich in omega-3s and organic food. For my son to be consuming a brain-altering medication is … is … is …”
“Out of the question.” Beinish finishes his wife's sentence and takes a quick look at Shmuel. “Dr. Summers my wife has done years of research into the relationship between diet and various chronic conditions. The results are convincing; some have even been reported in the Boston Medical Journal among others. She -- we -- will do our utmost to help our son in the way that we feel is best for him.”
The neurologist looks impassively at the couple sitting in front of her. She opens a desk drawer and withdraws a bundle of information booklets.
“I see that you've already made up your mind. A pity.”
