“Out of the Box” Costume Ideas

Washing Machine

  1. Find a square cardboard box a little wider than your shoulders. Cover all sides in A3 white cardboard.

  1. Using a plate draw a circle on either side for your arms and on the top centre for your head (Pic. 1). Carefully use a scissor to cut the circles out.

  1. For the door attach a round silver charger or disposable silver tray to the front centre. Glue scraps of cloth to the inner circle covering with a layer of bubble wrap to resemble soap bubbles!
  2. For the front panel draw the manufacturer’s logo washing symbols etc. copied from your own washing machine. You can photocopy these straight from the user manual that came with the washing machine and then cut and stick them onto the box.
  3. Use bottle lids for the buttons marking them ‘on’ ‘off’ etc. Glue to the box.
  4. For the soap dispenser cut off a generous corner edge from a plastic container and affix using a hot glue gun. This will be a handy moneybox for admirers to drop in some tzedaka on Purim.
  5. Finally cut out a laundry basket’s base and stick directly above the hole on top. Fill the basket with (clean) laundry hanging over the sides.
  6. Decorate with empty washing containers/bottles etc.
