Before a musician can play that beautiful music someone has to first write it. Composers write the music that others play but most composers can usually play at least one instrument very well and often more. They have to know and understand music very well and even more important have “a good ear” — the ability to hear how what he’s writing will sound and know if it needs tweaking here and there to make it sound just right.

Composers write all types of music from classical symphonies for orchestras to popular songs. Some composers are also “arrangers” which means they take an existing piece of music and rearrange it for a particular use which might mean writing in an extra instrument or changing the rhythms.
